life how families worked and played in a rural landscape before motorized
machinery and electric appliances replaced hand tools and animal power. Interactive
activities and exhibits focus on the seasonal chores and popular seasonal celebrations from the past 200 years.
Special events are fun, educational and for all ages. Call the

WINTER
CARNIVAL & ICE HARVESTING FESTIVAL February
9, 2008, 10:00am – 2:00pm The Remick
Country Doctor Museum & Farm celebrates its annual Winter Carnival &
Ice Harvest on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 10am- 2pm. You can cut
huge blocks of ice from Remick Pond with tools and techniques from the
18oo's! Use specially shaped saws, axes, chisels, forks, hooks, shovels and
tongs. The Yankee
Teamsters 4-H Working Steers Club will work their mighty oxen to haul
the ice to the ice house. The Perry Greene Kennel & Outfitters, of
Waldoboro, ME, along with members of the Chinook Owners Association, will
give dog sled rides to youngsters, weather permitting! The Winter Carnival
will include a snowball throwing contest and snowshoe obstacle course offered
by the Tamworth Recreation Department. The K. A. Brett Elementary School PTA
of Tamworth will sell food and refreshments as a fundraiser. Come inside to
warm up by the fire with homemade hot chocolate in our Visitor’s Center. Take a
horse-drawn sleigh ride on the Joe Binsack Trail, offering spectacular views
of Remick Farm. Sleigh rides are $5 per person. Donations are gratefully
accepted for participation in ice harvesting and hot chocolate sampling. Come
see the living quarters of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, the country doctor who
owned the property, and view exhibits on the agricultural way of life in New
Hampshire from 1790 to the present. View an exhibit
on local dog sled history, and meet Karen Jones, of Nerak Kennels, Tamworth,
and the New England Sled Dog Club, who will have a demonstration on dog sled
making. The ice on
Remick Farm Pond grows by about one inch per day when the region enters
a period of below freezing temperatures. To prepare for the ice
harvest, our staff clears away the snow cover on the pond,
which acts as an insulator, thus inhibiting the creation of ice. 2008 Winter Carnival & Ice Harvest

SUGARING: A SWEET EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY! Saturday,
March 15, 2008, 1 – 4pm Visit Remick
Museum with your family during maple sugaring season! Our annual
Maple Sugaring special event will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2008,
from 1-4pm. Come inside the new Remick Museum Sugar House with its
modern evaporator system. Sample some maple treats, such as sugar-on-snow.
Take a tractor-drawn wagon ride to the sugar bush, and view demonstrations of
Native American, Colonial, and backyard boiler "sugaring off"
methods. The Remick
Museum Farm House & Visitor's Center will feature exhibits on the life of
maple trees, tapping trees, collecting sap, and boiling down. Learn how the
process was first introduced to early European settlers by Native Americans.

CHILDREN'S FISHING DERBY Sunday, May 18, 2008, 10am- 12
noon It’s not always
about work on the farm. After chores are finished, the children enjoy a
favorite warm weather pastime. Our fish pond is stocked for children 15 years
old and under, with parental supervision. Trophies are awarded for biggest
fish, smallest fish and first to catch the limit. Bring your own bait and
tackle and a pail to carry your fish home. Two fish limit

VICTORIAN TEA Saturday, June 7, 2008, 3pm Join us for a Victorian Tea at the Captain Enoch Remick House
on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 3pm. Enjoy freshly brewed teas, lavender
lemonade, tea sandwiches, and delicate cookies. Learn about the history of
tea in the boyhood home of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, which contains the
family's antique furnishings. The fee is $8.00 per person. The Captain Enoch Remick House is located at 26 Great Hill
Road, Tamworth Village. Sorry to say, there are no spaces available for the June 7th
Victorian Tea, but please do call (603) 323- 8002 to make reservations for
the September 20th Victorian Tea. OX & ROCKS Saturday, June 14, 2008 10:00am –
2:00pm The annual special event, Ox and Rocks, will take place at
Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm on Saturday, June 14, 2008, 10am-
2pm. Members of the Yankee Teamsters 4-H Working Steers Club will have a
pre-fair competition with their teams of steers and oxen in Fitting &
Showmanship, Cart & Obstacle Course, and Stoneboat Hauling. Come take a tractor-driven hay ride through Remick Farm and
Binsack Trail. Morgan quarter horse, Hawk, and Milking Shorthorn Oxen,
Diamond and Dash, will demonstrate the use of traditional farm equipment with
Wayne Phillips, Livestock Manager. Michael Callis of Michael Callis
Stoneworks will rebuild a dry stone wall, answering questions from visitors
as he works. Children can use traditional farm tools, such as a Broadcast
Seeder and Corn Planter, and participate in the traditional fence building
activity, Sticks & Stones. Rhubarb cake and fruit flavored cream soda
will be available for sale. While at Ox & Rocks, enjoy a leisurely walk on
the Joe Binsack Memorial Trail, a low- impact, 6/10 mile hiking trail
offering spectacular views of Remick Farm and the Ossipee Mountains. View
exhibits in the museum’s Visitor Center, and tour the living quarters of Dr.
Edwin Crafts Remick, Tamworth’s most notable country doctor. Come see all the
new arrivals on the farm including Hereford cows, Nubian kids, Jersey bull

Constructed circa 1808, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house contains the antique furnishings of the Remick family. It was the boyhood home, and later on, the medical office of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, the museum’s founder. See hand-painted murals from the early 19th century attributed to the artist John Avery. event at Remick Museum, Blessing of the Animals will take place on the
grounds of Remick Farm on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 10am. A
multi-denominational team of MWV clergy will lead a ceremony to bless you and
your pet(s). They will also bless the livestock on Remick Farm. The
participating clergy members are: the Reverend Tom Abugelis, Pastor, Chocorua
Community Church, Chocorua, NH and the Tamworth Congregational Church Yoked
Ministries, Tamworth, NH, the Reverend Mary Edes, Pastor, Unitarian

PAINT SALE Saturday, October 4, 2008, 10am-
4pm Join the
NHPlein Air Artists at the Remick Museum for a Paint Out & Wet Paint Sale
on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 10am- 4pm. Open to members and
non-members, artists will paint outdoors on the museum grounds and in Tamworth
Village from 10am to 2:30pm. They will assemble at the museum's Visitor's
Center to sell wet, unframed works of art to the public from 2:30 to 4pm. The
artist will contribute a portion of the sale of each painting to support
Remick Museum. Artists interested
in participating in the Paint Out should visit the NHPlein Air Artists
website, www.nhpleinair.com to download the
registration form and return it to NHPlein Air with a registration fee. The special event,
Blessing of the Animals, which will take place in the morning hours of
October 4th, will provide a wealth of subject matter for artists to paint. Remick Museum
is open in summer Monday- Friday from 10am- 4pm, with tours of Remick Farm at
11am, 1pm, and 3pm. An educational activity is offered daily from 12:30-1pm.

October 11, 2008 (Columbus Day Weekend). HISTORIC THANKSGIVING Saturday, November 15, 2008 1 –
4pm Come enjoy some good food, a warm fire, country crafts, and a healthy dose of history at Historic Thanksgiving on Saturday, November 15, 2008, from 1-4pm. Our museum interpreters will prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal on the open hearth using historic recipes. The menu for Historic Thanksgiving includes roasted turkey, bread sauce stuffing-dressing, hearth bread and butter, boiled cider pie, Indian pudding, pumpkin stuffed with apples and cranberry sauce. In the English Barn, try your hand at making apple cider, and make a corn cob feather dart. Are you raising your own turkey for Thanksgiving this year? Take the next step, and see a demonstration on how to properly "dress" a turkey- from slaughtering the bird, to plucking feathers, to cleaning and storing poultry. This activity will take place outdoors on the farm- only those interested in turkey processing will see the activity. ENOCH REMICK HOUSE Sunday, December 7, 2008, 1 – 4PM Come enjoy chocolate treats, sugar cookies, country crafts, and a little history at the annual Victorian Christmas at the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm and the Captain Enoch Remick House on Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 1-4pm. Both houses will be beautifully decorated in Victorian style. Sample chocolate treats, such as steamed chocolate pudding, black & gold marble cake, sweet vanilla hot chocolate, candied peel, chocolate nuts, and chocolate truffles. Taste the traditional holiday drink, Syllabub. In the Museum Visitor’s Center, try your hand at making country crafts, including corn husk angels, felted snowballs, and decorative gift tags. View exhibits on Christmas traditions, and see the living quarters of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, the country doctor who owned the property. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Joe Binsack Trail, offering spectacular views of Remick Farm. (The sleigh rides will be converted to wagon rides if mild weather comes and melts the snow by Sunday.) The staff at the Captain Enoch Remick House will be baking sugar cookies; they will also have the Christmas drink, Wassail, and ginger snaps. See Victorian era decorations, which include an antique toy collection. While at Victorian Christmas, visit the newly expanded Remick Museum Shop stocked with American-made country gifts and toys, including Henderson Redware, earthenware pottery created from 19th century designs.
